It’s becoming a daily exercise.
So, what are these?, you might be asking yourself. As with all of my work I have no idea. Just little exercises to get back into the flow of painting. Slapping color down on the paper and watching what it does. As with all my work, it’s the process that is more important than the finished product.
They could be anything – seed pods, black holes, that alien ship in the movie The Arrival. Your guess is as good as mine.
I like working my paintings in layers and that is difficult to do with watercolor. Much patience is required. I like working with white paint – but white watercolor doesn’t work the same way as white oil paint. I also like going back into a painting like this with other media, like pencil, charcoal, conte-crayons …
Maybe when summer is over and I’m back living in the pod (and not packing light moving from housesit to housesit) I can experiment further with this process.
